About Daedalus Forge and Diego Araujo

I am Diego Pitta de Araujo, artist and biologist!

Daedalus Forge is inspired by the multiple set of skills that Daedalus had: architecture, sculpture, engineering and natural sciences. He created complex structures such as the minotaur labyrinth, and fully functional bird wings to escape from prison with his son. If Deadalus were to exist nowadays, he would probably have a high tech forge (a studio), and I would try to be his apprentice!

Like Daedalus, I believe that art and science have a lot of common grounds. I use my biological knowledge (especially in animal anatomy and biomechanics) to create concept art of all sorts.

Whether you are conceptualizing a giant mech, an alien environment or fantasy dragon, you will always find inspiration in the more than 1 million species of living beings described by scientists... or in some crazy mathematical formula such as fractals.

I also believe that learning happens through facing problems. Most of my CG skills were developed while trying to design 3D insect anatomy for my PhD research. So, set aside a problem for yourself, roll up your sleeves and start doing "good art" (as Neil Gaiman said)!
